Bracket Picks

OK. You asked for my picks. Now, you can see my bracket.

How did you come up with UNLV and Southern Illinois in the Final Four?

UNLV - In the first round they are the favorite (73%) over Georgia Tech. In the second round, they appeared to be a slight underdog (43%) to Wisconsin. Once I advanced the Rebels past the Badgers, I was surprised to see that UNLV was actually favored over Oregon (52%) in the Sweet 16. And, I was even more surprised to see UNLV as only a slight dog (48%) to Florida in the Elite 8. I took the underdog once again.

It appears that UNLV has about an 8% chance of making the Final Four out of the Midwest Regional. Definitely, an underdog pick when Florida and Wisconsin have Final Four probabilities of 18% and 13% respectively.

Southern Illinois - In the first round they are the favorite (77%) over Holy Cross. In the second round, they are an equal favorite over both Illinois and Virginia Tech (73%). Notice that I have Kentucky upsetting Kansas in the second round. Kentucky has about a 40% chance of the upset. If the Wildcats can pull off the win over Kansas, the Southern Illinois will be a 63% favorite to advance and play Pittsburgh. Southern Illinois is a pick 'em against Pitt.

SIU has about a 15% chance to make the Final Four compared to UCLA (22%), Kansas (12%), and Pitt (8%).
